AHMP dominate Day One of the SASN U/19 Schools Netball Championships

With Women’s Day being celebrated around the country, it was only a fitting time to have Day One of the SASN U/19 School Sports Netball Championships at Wits University’s Old Mutual Sports Hall.

The tournament is one that will be played over the four days of the long weekend, with the knockout phase being played over Saturday and Sunday afternoon. The matches are also available to stream live on the DStv Now app and free, even to non-DStv subscribers.

Teams that are taking part in this fantastic girls netball tournament feature the likes of Ben Vorster, Menlopark, Garsfontein, HTS Middelburg, Outeniqua, Zwartkop, Tholulwazi, Machekela, Affies, and Sentraal to mention a few. The first day saw a staggering 13 matches being played throughout Thursday from 8am right until 7pm, with all the talented girls from the region playing the games in great spirit.

Day One of the championships got underway this morning, with AHMP and Ben Vorster taking to the court first. The game itself was one that was rather one-sided, with AHMP staking their claim for this year’s title very early, with an emphatic 33-9 victory. The games that followed were much tighter contests, with Garsfontein beating Menlopark 22-16, Outeniqua going down 28-18 against Middelburg, and Sentraal sneaking past Zwartkop 23-19.

The afternoon session saw the teams return to the court, with AHMP and Garsfontein looking to continue their winning starts. There could only be one winner, however, and AHMP did what was necessary to come out top, winning the fierce contest 29-15. Ben Vorster then came up next against Outeniqua, where they narrowly overcame their test to earn themselves their first win, coming out 25-23 victors. Other results saw Menlopark defeating Zwartkop 30-26, Middelburg beat Sentraal 32-23, and Ben Vorster earned another ‘W’ by just sneaking past Garsfontein 18-15.

Zwartkop were then back to try snatch their first victory against the unbeaten AHMP, but the team from Pretoria seemed unbothered as they romped to yet another well executed victory by 31 points to 16. The rest of the days results saw Middelburg go down 30-20 against Menlopark, Outeniqua got back to winning ways by defeating Sentraal 29-14 before AHMP closed the days play and remained unbeaten on Day One, finding a way past Menlopark with a 25-21 win.

The action continues tomorrow at Wits University, with 13 games being played again, throughout the day. The clashes will also be broadcast live on the DStv Now app.
